Why We Exist

Founded with a deep commitment to enhancing the lives of older adults, Sagewood Wellness was created by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists Adele Folliott and Ashley McCune. Recognizing the gaps in existing support services for aging adults, the pair set out to reimagine what it means to age in place. Aging should be a season of connection, purpose and vitality. Sagewood Wellness provides clients with the opportunity to engage in purposeful leisure as a means to support overall well-being, foster independence, and enhance quality of life throughout the aging journey.

Ashley McCune, BA, BTR, CTRS

Ashley McCune is the co-founder of Sagewood Wellness Inc. She brings over 20 years of experience in public health and community services. Currently, Ashley works as a Recreation Therapist at The Summit: Marian & Jim Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience, Calgary’s first pediatric mental health day hospital program. She has held leadership roles on the Board of Directors for the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association, serving as Treasurer and Secretary. In November, Ashley will assume the elected position of Vice President, where she will contribute her extensive knowledge in governance, financial management, and strategic planning.

Ashley is committed to ongoing learning and continuously seeks out innovative training to enhance the support she provides to her clients. She has completed specialized training in therapeutic horticulture, which she thoughtfully integrates into her practice to promote relaxation, sensory engagement, and emotional well-being. Her mother’s diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s inspired her to help create a wellness model that supports both individuals and families navigating complex care systems. Outside of her professional work, Ashley enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring local trails, and staying active with her family.

The Caregiver Compass Program

We understand the emotional and practical challenges that often accompany the caregiving journey. To further support caregiver well-being, individual counselling sessions are available, offering a confidential and compassionate space to explore concerns, build coping strategies, and receive personalized guidance.

Our goal is to help caregivers maintain balance, resilience, and emotional strength as they navigate this important role. Sessions may be booked independently or in conjunction with participation in our other programs.
